Girl’s Group

This program currently provides group and individual therapy sessions for female youth who are 12 – 17 years old and have been adjudicated delinquent and/or unruly at all risk levels.  The youth are referred by a probation officer or the Juvenile Court Judge.

The sessions are held one hour per week for 8 – 10 weeks and serve 5 – 8 girls per group.   The contracted therapist addresses issues such as establishing appropriate boundaries, including defining boundaries, identity boundaries, relationship boundaries, social skill boundaries, personal space boundaries, and emotional boundaries.  The curriculum is based on a combination of various theories, including object relations theory, systems theory, and personal space boundary theory.  The activities used during the group session are cognitive-behavioral.

The therapist maintains open communication with the Court and provides periodic progress reports on youth.  This allows court staff to address any issues such as poor attendance and lack of participation immediately in order to hold youth accountable

The goal of this program is to reduce recidivism by improving social skills, helping to form healthier relationships, improving family relationships, increasing assertiveness, improving emotional regulation, and increasing self esteem.
